Asha for Education

We are Asha for Education, a non-profit organization with over 50 chapters across the world that raises money for K-12 schools in India. Our mission is to catalyze socioeconomic change in India by lending a helping hand to the education of underprivileged children. As the Berkeley branch of Asha for Education, we raise awareness of the crucial obstacles to Indian social mobility and development by funding seven educational projects across India: Rewards Trust, Mera Sahara, Jamghat, Avantika Vidhya Bhavan, Little Stars, Tihar, and Sakhi for Girls’ Education. With your help, we hope to utilize the funds we raise to specifically aid Sakhi for Girls’ Education.

Sakhi for Girls’ Education was originally created by Aarti Naik, a changemaker from Mumbai, and aims to provide a safe space for girls to learn and grow emotionally. About ten years ago, Naik founded Sakhi after experiencing firsthand the disadvantages that young Indian girls face in getting a basic education and in becoming independent, self-reliant adults. By empowering these girls with basic education, vocabulary and numeracy lessons, computer literacy, and other basic life skills, Sakhi for Girls’ Education strengthens the confidence of hundreds of girls in India. Through supportive methods that encourage a love for learning, Sakhi educates young girls about their rights and helps them build their confidence as well as their knowledge, inspiring them to become future leaders.

Our duty as Asha for Education is to help fund for Sakhi’s needs. With an overall goal of $5800, we hope to fund for Sakhi’s educational materials, extracurriculars, and salaries for teachers and trainers.
