Our Story
We, the Executive Committee of the 150 Years of Berkeley Women Celebration (150W), are seeking to raise $30,000 for a public art project that will become a permanent legacy of this year of celebrating the contributions of women throughout the history of UC Berkeley.

150 Years of History
In 1870, the Regents of the University of California unanimously approved a resolution by Regent Samuel F. Butterworth: “That young ladies be admitted into the University on equal terms in all respects with young men.” The first women were admitted to the university in 1872, and the first woman, Rosa Scrivner, graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture in 1874. Since that time, hundreds of thousands of women have graduated from UC Berkeley, and thousands of staff, faculty, and friends of the campus have made immeasurable contributions to our campus and beyond.
Join our Legacy
The 150W celebration in 2020 includes an ambitious history project, a series of festive events, and an eye-catching logo that all are encouraged to use. The logo shown above celebrates the Dreamers. The 150W celebration is the result of the contributions of many: students, staff, faculty, alumni, friends of the campus.
As its permanent legacy, we can think of no better gift to the campus than a permanent sculpture that will add beauty and interest to the campus and serve as a daily reminder of the proud, challenging and triumphant history of women at UC Berkeley.
