Preserving history and culture to illuminate the future! 2026

NEW GOAL: $25,000 and all donations doubled!

Thank you to all our wonderful Library supporters who helped us reach our original goal!  Peter Van Houten '56, M.A. '62, Ed.D. '73 has generously increased his challenge match, so now all donations up to our new goal are doubled. All our donor perks are all still available to help us reach our new goal. Thank you!

For many years, the UC Berkeley Library has stood among the world’s great research libraries, stewarding collections that fuel discovery and advance human understanding. Critical to this mission is preservation: the essential work of ensuring that historical materials remain accessible to inform and inspire future scholarship.

This October, you can be part of that work. Help us raise $10,000 for the Library Preservation Fund and protect the remarkable collections that connect us with our shared history. With your investment, they can continue to fuel the imaginations of scholars and dreamers for generations to come.

Double your impact: Make a gift today, and it will be matched dollar for dollar by Peter S. Van Houten ’56, M.A. ’62, Ed.D. ’73, a longtime Library supporter who wants to help us reach our goal.

Preservation in action: Advancing access and discovery

Your commitment to the Library’s preservation efforts enables research, teaching, and public engagement. Your gift helps:

• Restore and stabilize collections so they remain available for hands-on use.

• Prepare materials for digitization to expand free and equitable global access.

• Protect collections from environmental damage and disaster loss.

Please support the Library’s preservation work by donating to the fund today. Together, we can safeguard centuries of shared knowledge, from rare books and maps to priceless historical manuscripts and papyri.
