Cal Boxing is the oldest continuous collegiate boxing program in the nation. Since 1916, we have welcomed committed, hard-working student-athletes with levels of boxing experience varying from lifelong boxers to total newcomers. Our organization inspires confidence, builds tenacity, and hones leadership skills of all participants. as these traits are necessary to be successful both in the ring, and in other aspects of their academic career or general life.
Our Fall semester team, standing in our practice ring that we are hoping to renovate with your donations!
As a premier athletic program open to the entire Berkeley community, we strive to develop these traits both in and out of the ring, in order to foster the next generation of passionate, dedicated Berkeley leaders.
Money from donations will primarily go towards renovating our gym to enable our small space to be able to accommodate as many students as possible, and allow for the highest possible degree of training. Renovations include improved bag stands, new speed bags, and, if possible, a new ring to practice in! The space we train in has such a meaningful impact on our ability to hone our skills to the max, and push ourselves to the limit. With your help we can take the next BIG step in becoming the best group of boxers we can be.

Additionally, we rely on funding for a number of other important things, including:
1) Purchasing gear and uniforms for individuals to use in competition, as well as to provide to members who may not be able to afford boxing gear on their own. Safety is our top priority, so we require that all members use appropriate, up-to-date protective equipment for all drills and exercises. We want to encourage a community where everyone is able to participate, regardless of financial circumstances, so your donations will directly impact our ability to provide gear for our members to train with.
2) Putting on our annual Berkeley home bout, where many of our new members get a chance to compete for the very first time. It takes a lot of organization and capital investment to make this major event happen, especially since we hope to have hundreds of friends, family, and community members in attendance this year!
Friends, family, and students from all over come cheer on our boxers as we compete in our annual Home Invitational Boxing Matches
3) Finally, we require some funding to send as many of our boxers as possible to compete in regional and national tournaments. Last year Cal Boxing had one national champion, and our women's team won third place overall. We'd like to keep bringing home these titles for Cal, and that all happens with excellent training (see point #1) and being able to send our competitive members to the necessary tournaments.
Some of our boxers after competing in the National Championship Tournament in Westpoint, New York. We won 1 national championship, and our women placed 3rd place overall (the only schools that beat us were military institutions)!
Donating to the Cal Boxing crowdfunding campaign is beneficial in two major ways. Firstly, donors help to provide future members of Cal Boxing with the same life-changing opportunities as so many in the past have already experienced. Secondly, donors are participating in continuing a Berkeley tradition deeply rooted in the history of the university, and in perpetuating our teams outstanding successes on the national stage.
At the end of every semester, we hold our banquet, where we get dressed up and hang out without the goal of punching each other!

Thanks so much for helping our team, and our family, thrive! GO BEARS!
