Any donations beyond our initial goal will go towards sending an additional two teams to the Two-Step and setting up a scholarship fund for members with financial need.
Parliamentary Debate at Berkeley, UC Berkeley’s 
national championship-winning NPDA debate team, provides individuals of all experience levels with the opportunity to successfully compete in intercollegiate parliamentary debate. We are currently hoping to fundraise for six of our two-person teams to attend the Texas Two Step, a week-long debate tournament in January.
Most other universities that compete in this form of debate have full-time coaches, a budget, and administrative support, but we rely on your donations and support to keep our program running and attend tournaments. The $3,000 we are aiming to raise will go directly to covering the additional transportation and registration costs of sending more than two teams, and would allow us to send at least two more teams to the tournament.
We have had great successes at the Texas Two Step in the past! Last year, a UC Berkeley team took second place and won an award for the best preliminary record. We have also had individual debaters place first and second in speaking points, with three others in the top 20. Right now, we have the financial ability to send only two partnerships, which usually end up being students with the most competitive experience and have also attended multiple other travel tournaments.
Because the Two Step is actually two back-to-back tournaments, it doubles our teams’ chances to qualify for Nationals and attend two tournaments for the price of one. Any donations we receive will directly benefit our less experienced teams to allow for debate education, as well as lower income students who might otherwise be unable to compete. For donations $25 or above, we'll list your name in a thank you page on our team website, which will then be shared from our social media page.
For donations $50 or above, we'll send you a photo of the team from the Texas Two Step with signatures from all attending team members.
For donations $100 or above, we'll send you a handwritten thank you note from the Texas Two Step attendants in addition to the signed photo.
Our top 5 donors over $100 will receive a personalized thank you video from the attendants of the Texas Two Step, in addition to the thank you note and signed photo.
