BridgeUSA is a multipartisan political organization that is dedicated to bringing people together through constructive discourse. It was first founded in Berkeley after the Milo Yiannopoulos riots which caused $100,000 damages to campus and and harmed bystanders. Our founders saw the intense anger and tension that pervaded our campus and community, and knew that we needed to find a way to understand each other before physical and mental damage could not be repaired.
Now more than ever, we need to understand each others viewpoints and find ways to work together for a productive, healthy community and country. We are current and emerging leaders. We have a responsibility to ourselves and our community to create policy, vote, elect officials and act in a way that helps us grow and create change. Through inviting speakers, having moderated discussions, and more, BridgeUSA is able to create political reform at Berkeley and around the country. As elections come closer, it is more important than ever for our campus and country to fix the political divide which so deeply impacts every aspect of our lives. We need your help to be able to host events that maximize democracy and fix national governance.
After hosting many successful events last year, we began to think about events that will further our Bridge movement, and decided on the idea of a debate with high profile speakers who are or were involved in the presidential elections. Since debates allow a wide spectrum of viewpoints to be shared and for a larger attendance than smaller discussions, we believe that it will be highly effective in illustrating the BridgeUSA vision and goal. Our goal for this event is roughly $4000, which contributes to audio/visuals, speaker fees, travel, venue, advertisements, and more. BridgeUSA hopes that this event will leave attendees challenging their own beliefs, pondering diverging viewpoints, and empathizing with those who have differing perspectives.
