Athletic Study Center - STEM Academic Support

The Athletic Study Center provides holistic student development, academic support, and academic advising services to the student athlete population at UC Berkeley.  We are a unit within the Division of Undergraduate Education and it is our mission to support student athletes in developing as independent, self-reliant and successful young adults. We are committed to the integration and engagement of student athletes into campus life.  

Our Academic Support team includes five professional Learning Specialists and a group of graduate and undergraduate student tutors. The Learning Specialists serve a caseload of approximately 125 student athletes while our tutors serve around 500 student athletes per semester.  

Over the past five years, the demand has increased dramatically for academic support in math and sciences skills and coursework. Five of the top declared majors of student athletes are Business Administration, Cognitive Science, Molecular and Cell Biology, Mechanical Engineering, and Economics. 

Due to this increasing demand, we will be hiring a learning specialist with particular expertise in providing STEM support to our student athletes. This position will train tutors, provide oversight and directly support students who wish to pursue STEM course work and majors. We hope to raise $100,000 for the salary and benefits of this important new member of our team. Your generosity will directly benefit our student athletes’ academic and career goals.
