Dear Supporters,
Our campaign has now concluded and, despite the horrible economic context and public health crisis, we raised $8,703 from 72 donors in just a few weeks. Together with our other fundraising earlier in the year, we now have enough to make a real difference for every student in the program. For each of them, it means something different: rent, childcare, medical expenses, transportation, and transcription expenses are some of the highest priorities.
Donations ranged from $10-$1,000, and we appreciate them all. Those who donated over $50 are listed on our website.
For those of you who requested other perks, they will be coming later this summer! (And, we know that is not why you gave, but we welcome the opportunity to show our appreciation!).
One distinguishing characteristic of the Graduate Fellows Program is that we provide extensive group and individualized coaching to our Fellows as they look for jobs. This was a successful year for our Fellows, and we are proud to announce their next destinations:
Angela Aguilar, Staff Member, Movement Generation Justice & Ecology Project
Omar Davila, Jr., Assistant Professor, Child Studies, Santa Clara University
René Espinoza Kissell, Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellow, College of Education, University of Colorado, Boulder
Gabby Medina Falzone, Postdoctoral Scholar, Restorative Justice Institute, College of Education, Pennsylvania State University
Eunice Lee, Assistant Professor, Law, University of Arizona
Fithawee Tzeggai, Assistant Professor of Sociology, University of Kansas
A couple of our fellows are in limbo due to hiring freezes, and our thoughts are with them and everyone who is struggling and mourning right now. We are touched that you chose to invest in the future at this difficult time.
Thank you again,
Deborah, David, Renee, Erica, Omar, Blanca, Isabel, Monique, Santiago, Paula, Angela, Corbin, Louise, Gabby, and Fantasia
Dear Graduate Fellows Program Alumni and Friends,
We are touched and thrilled by the outpouring of support. It's a welcome antidote to the crisis around us. We have now raised almost $6,000 from 47 donors! But we're not done. With one week left in our campaign, we want to get to $10,000. That will be $1,000 for each of our Fellows next year.
You can help by sharing our campaign via email, text, and/or social media.
Check out our Alumni News page to see incredible public scholarship on the pressing topics of today, including Covid-19. And see our new Alumni Books page for an impressive array of ground-breaking books. We have over 200 alums, and we don't have a good way to keeping up with all of you, so if you have news to share, please get in touch!
While many of the Graduate Fellow Program alumni are university professors, our alumni also work in the corporate, government, and non-profit sectors. This spring we held a panel discussion for our current fellows on careers outside the academy. The guest speakers were four of our alums: Arona Ragins, Carmen Martínez-Calderón, Ricardo Huerta Niño, and Tamera Stover. Please check out our new one-minute alumni video! And if you are an alum and would be willing to record a brief video saying what the Graduate Fellows Program means to you, we would love that. Just be sure to hold your phone sideways/landscape! And email to issi@berkeley.edu
Thank you again,
Deborah, David, Renee, Erica, Omar, Blanca, Isabel, Monique, Santiago, Paula, Angela, Corbin, Louise, Gabby, and Fantasia
Dear Graduate Fellows Program Supporters,
Thank you so much to everyone who has given so far! We've raised over $3,000 from 22 donors in a week! The outpouring of support is so heart-warming amidst all the sadness and anger in the world now. In addition to those on our donor wall, we also want to thank our friends and alums who donated in March: Michael Burawoy, Ricky Bluthenthal, Teresa Cordova, Troy Duster, Francisco Doñez, David Montejano, Peter Nelson, Carlos Penilla, Keramet Reiter, and Jonathan Simon.
We would like to get to $4,000 by Sunday. Can you help us spread the word on social media? There are links to do that from the campaign site, or just share this link: https://crowdfund.berkeley.edu/project/20154
Like everyone else, the Fellows have been meeting online. While it is not a great substitute for meeting in person, we have been able to stay connected -- here's a screenshot of our meeting this week. Several of the Fellows have mentioned that they are especially grateful for the support and structure of the program now and that the financial support is essential for them and their family members. With your help, we are well on our way to providing that support next year as well!
With appreciation,
Deborah, David, Renee, Erica, Omar, Blanca, Isabel, Monique, Santiago, Paula, Angela, Corbin, Louise, Gabby, and Fantasia
