Power of a Princess (POP) is a student run organization of volunteers who transform into Disney characters to provide magical visits to underserved, low-income, or critically ill children in need of a little joy and cheer. We hope to help children forget about their worries during these unprecedented times and dream! We host a variety of events including a winter wonderland, tea parties, zoom events with the princesses, personalized videos and letters from the princesses, and dance classes.
We are raising money to finish purchasing costumes for POP members to represent all characters (male characters and characters of color), to buy and send gifts (candies and small toys) to children along with their personalized letters, shipping costs, and prizes/products to give out during future fundraising events (Disney theme boxes, merchandise, raffles) to continue growing the club and adding new members/characters to the club and cast.
Our project is important because it provides children who might not have the resources to go to Disneyworld/Disneyland or hire characters for parties an opportunity to interact with princesses and get to experience the magic Disney offers. We also work with local businesses and host events for children from local organizations. Finally, POP has women of color playing characters who aren’t traditionally of color and it is important for children of color to see characters/role models played by people who look like them. This allows them to grow up identifying with positive perceptions of their own ethnicity or gender.
