IEOR Big Give Undergraduate Research Support

The Berkeley Department of Industrial Engineering & Operations Research (IEOR) is supporting undergraduate students on Big Give by fundraising to create more undergraduate research opportunities. Your support will help us support undergraduate students with stipends, staff and faculty support so that they can work with IEOR professors in their lab and gain once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Why support IEOR undergraduate research?

• Research opportunities help undergraduates explore exciting career directions.  IEOR is very interdisciplinary, which is attractive for students who are interested in many different fields. With hands-on experience, students will have a chance to try work in different domains to see what appeals most to them.
• Help students build transferable skills and enhance their resumes. When students have the chance to collaborate with faculty in labs, they can learn directly from distinguished IEOR faculty, brilliant graduate students, and have experience that will help them be more competitive on the job market.
• Research helps students learn to publicly advocate and defend their work. Research projects require students to present, create posters, or attend conferences where they will communicate about their experience and defend their findings.
• Getting competitive experience for further learning. It's no secret that students with research experience have a competitive edge when applying to graduate school. By supporting undergraduate research, we will enable our most curious students the chance to further their knowledge.
• Students can contribute knowledge and make an impact on the world. By supporting faculty in their labs, undergraduate researchers can help discover new knowledge that can make an impact on society for decades to come.
