For 50 years, Bud "Dog" Turner was a fixture in the Cal Athletics department, specifically the football program. What started as helping out a friend on game-day, turned into five decades of volunteering his time, doing a number of jobs throughout the years. Anyone who passed through the equipment room remembers Dog-particularly his genuine personality, commitment to Cal, and his passion for getting to know anyone who passed through the equipment room doors. He touched thousands of lives during his time at Cal, leaving a lasting impression on alumni and staff who had the opportunity to work with him.
Though Dog passed away on September 3rd, 2020-his legacy lives on. Honoring his memory includes a named space in California Memorial Stadium, recognizing his family at a future game, and establishing an endowment in Dog's name to help support football student equipment managers.
