Thanks to your generosity, we were able to raise $3,905 for the Young Worker Leadership Academy (YWLA), which represents 65% of our goal. With these funds we will be able to cover hotel accomadations and transportation/parking, bringing our final two teams to the YWLA in Berkeley, CA this January 2017. We will also be able to cover student stipends for these teens.
Once again thank you for supporting the YWLA. It's only project of its kind in California—young workers do not learn about workplace issues from other sources, and youth need to lead the way to ensure that they do!
We will be in touch about any donor perks you've selected over the next several months. In the meantime, don't hesitate to contact Kelsie Scruggs kscrug@berkely.edu with any questions or comments.
Many thanks,
Kelsie, Diane, Joselyn, & Kiran
Today is the LAST DAY of our crowdfunding campaign for the Young Worker Leadership Academy (YWLA)! With your support, we have raised 63% of our $6,000 goal. It's not too late to spread the word about our campaign by sharing the link to our page https://crowdfund.berkeley.edu/ywla or sending an email to just three of your connections.
If we reach our $6,000 goal, we will be able to fully fund all of our teams — travel, hotel, meeting space, stipends. Again, thank you so much for your support!
Best,
YWLA Team
A big thank you to all of our donors! We have raised just over $2,000 for the Young Worker Leadership Academy. Now we have a 7-day push until October 31st. Thank you for helping support California youth, so they can learn more about their own rights and make a difference in their home communities.
Past Project Highlight:
Team LA Works from Irwindale, CA developed presentations to reach youth and employers of youth in their community. The team presented at an LA Works event, at two local high schools to teens, and to the Irwindale Chamber of Commerce. They shared messages about protecting the health and safety of young workers and awareness of Labor Laws, reaching 75 youth and 15 adults in the community.
Thanks for supporting YWLA efforts like this!
Kelsie
Woohoo! Thanks to our wonderful donors we have just reached 30% of our goal!
As you may know, the Young Worker Leadership Academy (YWLA) not only better prepares youth for the workforce, but introduces them to a university campus, builds their leadership skills, as well as confidence speaking up and out! We asked youth from the 2016 academy what they learned from the YWLA, here's what two teens said:
