California Lightweight Rowing is a club team formed in the 1970s to give athletes of all sizes a chance at the sport. Today, we are the only team in the western United States dedicated to both men’s and women’s lightweight rowing. As a club team, we raise most of our funds ourselves, with dedicated support from our families and alumni, while trying to make the sport as affordable as possible for our student-athletes. We refuse to turn away aspiring athletes if money is the only thing stopping them from rowing on our team. Despite this, members oftentimes end up paying out of pocket for major championships such as San Diego Crew Classic, WIRAs (Western Intercollegiate Rowing Championships), and ACRAs (Club Nationals) while bearing the weight of being a full-time student. The Cal Lightweight Rowing team has a deep history of taking on challenges and fostering camaraderie. We want to keep giving our athletes the unforgettable experience of becoming a part of a team without worrying about monetary burdens; we push our athletes to accomplish great things, whether on the water, in the classroom, or out in the world.
To assist in accomplishing/reaching our goals this year, we are fundraising to cover the cost of boat repairs, spare parts, and laying the groundwork for building a sustainable and winning program. All other donations will be used to finance the team’s transition back onto the water, as we have been off the water since March 2020. Our first scrimmage this semester is the Menlo Scrimmage on October 30th -- one day before Crowdfunding ends. Donate now, and share our fundraising for the Cal Lights with your colleagues, fellow alumni, or other parent bears. Go Bears!
