Welcome to the Crowdfunding page of the UC Berkeley Cycling Team! We hope you will enjoy getting to know us a little more.
Cal Cycling offers road, gravel, and mountain biking to undergraduate and graduate students. Whether it be a Saturday social ride along the Bay or a Sunday slam across the country at Nationals, we have a wide range of available pursuits for the budding or professional cyclist.
Every year, we compete in the Western Collegiate Cycling Conference and USA Cycling. We are coming off of a strong mountain bike season, having placed 2nd and 4th at Collegiate Nationals in STXC and XC, respectively, and gearing up for a successful road season. Past victories include placing 1st in road at the world’s largest cycling festival, the Sea Otter Classic, and a Cal Sports Female Athlete of the Year title.
Yet, what it means to carry the Cal Cycling name goes beyond competitive achievements. First and foremost, we are a tight-knit support network. With over 200 members currently, cycling as a sport continues to grow even after the pandemic bicycle boom. From recommending trails to lending equipment, we uphold values of fitness and community. We strive to embody a space for anyone to thrive, however that may be defined. In fact, many of our recreational riders become first-time collegiate racers who go on to stay active long after graduation. Several of our proficient athletes, gaining skills and confidence through our team, go on to race in other individual leagues.
While we have a blast with each other, we also recognize the importance of giving back. We’ve done charity ride events to benefit the victims of California wildfires and women in poverty, to name a few. Our next goal is to give back to the passion that we love so much. During recruitment, quite a few expressed interest in joining Cal Cycling but did not have bikes. This is a barrier that we’d like to help overcome.
As a student-run club sports team, the University does not provide us with financial support and hence we rely on member dues, sponsorships, and the generosity of folks like you. Your valuable contributions support racing and non-racing members alike. Funds would greatly assist us to:
1. Make recreational cycling accessible by covering the purchase of extra bikes and storage facilities
2. Make competitive cycling accessible by covering race fees for new racers
3. Bring back the Berkeley Streets Criterium in 2022
4. Hire a coach
Essentially, funds would allow us to expand on resources so Cal Cycling can keep serving as a backbone for all levels of cyclists.
