UC Berkeley Men's Club Water Polo Fundraiser

UC Berkeley Men's Club Water Polo is a self-run, self-funded, competitive water polo team consisting of about 25 undergraduate and graduate students. In the fall, we practice four nights a week while also traveling to biweekly regional tournaments to compete against local rivals like Stanford, Cal Maritime, and UC Davis. We are eight-time regional champions, having claimed the Sierra Pacific Division crown every year from 2012-2018 and again in 2021. On the national scene, we commonly finish among the top five teams in the country.

As always, our team’s main focus is to finally bring a national title home to Berkeley. However, in doing so, we face a major challenge: we are almost entirely self funded. There are numerous costs associated with running a successful team like coach’s fees, travel fees, lodging fees, league fees, uniforms, pool time and equipment. The national championship tournament can be particularly expensive to attend, as it’s hosted at rotating sites across the country (most recently, Huntsville, AL). Because we receive very little financial support from the University, any and all donations make a huge impact in supporting our team!

After missing over a year of polo because of COVID, we understand better than ever how rewarding it can be to be a member of a closely-knit team. Because we want to provide an experience like this for as many students as possible, the main objectives of our fundraiser are to help subsidize travel expenses for players and to work on gaining additional pool time and practice materials so that we can work towards expanding our team in future years.
