Code for Social Impact. Design for Social Impact. Build for Social Impact. Our team is hoping to raise $6000 to fund our efforts to develop technology solutions for local and global nonprofit organizations. Would you be interested in helping us on our mission to help others? Read more down below!
Tech for Social Good
Blueprint is a club at UC Berkeley that develops pro-bono apps for nonprofits and promotes tech for social good. Our mission is to make beautiful engineering accessible and useful for those who create communities and promote public welfare. Each year, we work with non-profit organizations to help them better serve their communities. The four nonprofits we are working with this semester are Chinese Newcomers Service Center, Vouchers 4 Veggies, Cultural Survival, and the Berkeley Student Cooperative!
Chinese Newcomers Service Center
Chinese Newcomers Service Center (CNSC) provides multilingual services that can help Chinese Immigrants adapt to life in the United States. CNSC serves are a bridge between the two cultures, enhancing the physical, mental, social, and economic well-being of immigrants, thus facilitating their efforts to become self-sufficient members of the community. This project involved building a multilingual mobile application that allows Chinese immigrants to browse and apply to jobs. The app will also support employer and admin permissions for posting and updating opportunities. We aim to reduce the limitations of WeChat and spreadsheets currently used by CNSC.
Vouchers 4 Veggies
Vouchers 4 Veggies (V4V) is a San Francisco based food program that aims to increase access to healthy and affordable foods for low-income individuals and families by providing free vouchers for fruit and vegetables. V4V partners with dozens of local grocers and farmers markets to address the unique food insecurity issues in San Francisco. The project involves building a mobile application that allows vendors to submit voucher data via QR code. This app will allow administrators to see voucher data and update vendor invoices. This project will help streamline logistical operations for vendors and V4V admin, letting them better focus on people facing food insecurity.
Cultural Survival
Cultural Survival is an Indigenous-led NGO that advocates for Indigenous Peoples' rights and supports Indigenous communities’ self-determination, cultures, and political resilience. For the past 50 years, Cultural Survival has partnered with Indigenous communities across 70+ countries, providing support through grants, advocacy, and community building. The goal of our project is to build an offline-friendly mobile application to store indigenous audio content and community resources. The app will allow users to search, download, and listen to podcasts in their chosen language, aiming to replace Cultural Survival’s current method of distributing podcasts via USBs.
Berkeley Student Cooperative
For nearly 90 years, the Berkeley Student Cooperative (BSC) has provided a quality, low-cost, cooperative housing community to university students who might not otherwise be able to afford a university education. BSC strongly prompts the values of anti-discrimination and access to education; it currently provides meals and/or housing to over 1300 Berkeley students. The goal of our project is to build a work shift management web application that will allow co-op students to submit their shift preferences, view assigned tasks, and submit proof upon completion. It will also allow admin to assign tasks to students and track their progress. We aim to streamline BSC’s task tracking to replace an outdated process and reduce their logistical burden.
Community Outreach
Blueprint makes big strides in sparking conversations on campus to help bring students, academia, nonprofits, and companies together. Blueprint fosters a warm, diverse, and inclusive culture around technology, and we want to share this perspective with the large UC Berkeley community. Some of our past projects include Hack for Social Impact Summit and our Bloom Mentorship Program. This semester, our focus will be continuing our Social Impact Summit series.
