Cal Equestrian Fundraiser

Cal Equestrian was born to directly challenge the notion that horseback riding is for the wealthy and privileged.

Our competitions are structured such that all riders, whether they have competed in Grands Prix or never ridden a horse before, will have a chance to compete and win points as an individual and for the team. At IHSA competitions, team members compete on the hosting school’s horses. This means you don’t need to own a horse to compete, which significantly reduces the cost of riding.

We try to keep our team dues as low as possible to make the equestrian sport affordable and accessible for our members. This unfortunately means that they barely cover the cost of the lessons and membership dues, let alone horse care, riding apparel, travel, and more.

Thanks to the personal sacrifices and hard work of our team members and supporters, Cal Equestrian has been able to stay running and we have become increasingly competitive in recent years. In 2019, two of our riders won at the regional competition to qualify for zone finals (which include all qualified riders from Washington State, Oregon, California, Colorado, Montana, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Kansas, Nebraska, and British Columbia). Come 2020, three of our riders qualified for zone finals.

Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to compete in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons, but we hope that with your help, we will be able to have great success in the 2022-23 show season, and hopefully make it to nationals.

Budget Breakdown:

  • $1000: Team member scholarships
  • $300: Travel and show expenses
  • $200: Team apparel and equipment
  • $500: Community and educational events

As our riders work hard to improve, we hope to ensure that everyone can afford to practice and compete, but we cannot do it alone. Through your generous donations, you will support a radical change in equestrian competition, leveling the playing field and allowing riders of all backgrounds and experience levels to have their shot at the blue ribbon.
