November's crowdfunder is almost over...!!

November campaign passes half-way mark...

November 16, 2023

Earlier this year, I wrote a long piece for Codastory.com about Maeve Boothby O'Neill, a young English woman who died two years ago from complications of ME after more than a decade of struggling with her illness. The family has now been waiting more than two years for a formal inquest. The coroner has finally called a preliminary meeting for later this month. I hope to be able to attend in person when the full inquest is held.

As November campaign launches,

November 03, 2023

Dear Past Supporter of Trial By Error:

Usually I've done a fall crowdfunding in October; this year, it's in November. I really appreciate all the support I've received over the years. I hope donors feel they've received a good return on their investment in my Berkeley project. (Donations are tax-deductible to US taxpayers.)

I learned this week that a letter rebutting inflated claims about the prevalence of functional neurological disorder has been accepted for publication in the journal NeuroImage: Clinical. You can read a pre-print of the letter here. I have spent a fair amount of time trying to counter published misinformation about this issue, so I'm glad an accurate account will soon be available in the medical literature.

April crowdfunder reaches 74% of the goal...I have always tried to provide a good return-on-investment!

April 25, 2023

With five days left till the end of the month, this campaign is nearing 400 donations. As usual, the most are from the UK (131), followed by the US (87). But for the first time, a donation has come from Jordan!

Thanks much! It has meant a lot to me that I have been able to continue with this project for the last few years through the generosity of the patient and advocacy communities.--David

April crowdfunding question: Why is the NIH counting a $3.6 million study of cancer-related fatigue as part of the $13 million ME/CFS portfolio?

April 17, 2023

I blogged about that on Friday. On Monday I blogged about the CLoCk study of Long Covid in kids--a project involving, among others, Professor Esther Crawley, Bristol University's methodologically and ethically challenged pediatrician and grant magnet.

Weekend reminder of April campaign...

April 09, 2023

This month's Berkeley crowdfunding has so far received more than 100 donations and reached 13% of the goal. As usual, the most donations--39--are from the UK, with 28 from the US, 15 from Norway, and others here and there.

On Friday, I posted a follow-up to my earlier post about a problematic new JAMA study that provides fodder for those seeking to minimize long Covid. The follow-up discusses the study's links to Recovery Norway, a group associated with the "mind-body" training called the Lightning Process. The study also seeks to resuscitate the zombie Fukuda case definition for CFS from 1994, which has been largely abandoned.

Goal Reached!

November 01, 2022

Thanks much to all! The month of October has ended, and so has this crowdfunding campaign, which surpassed its goal on the last day. Going forward, I plan to send out occasional updates and links to my posts and articles...

(Please ignore the verbiage about donating that is automatically added below to this update. The campaign is over.)
