The Black Engineering and Science Student Association (BESSA) is the University of California, Berkeley chapter for our parent organization the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). We are a student-run, non-profit organization that thrives on its members' support, success, and commitment. We diligently work to provide academic and social support not only to our engineering and science community but to the entire Black community. This organization is a strong believer in academic excellence, personal growth, and a commitment to minority communities in and out of the classroom.
Your support will allow us to:
Fund high quality tutors for our weekly study jams in order to build and retain Black academic excellence at Cal ($500 / tutor)
Host various outreach events throughout the school year to support and engage local Black K-12 with STEM and engineering in order to increase Black representation in STEM ($100 / student)
Go on company trips and host professional development events to build corporate relationships and provide post-college opportunities to Black students on campus ($20 / person for transportation)
Fund students for attendance at regional and national NSBE events and conferences, thus building the Black STEM network ($1000 / student)
Your gift will go towards supporting our local outreach events - every semester, we engage the local Black K-12 community through providing a safe and wholesome environment for them to learn about and succeed in STEM.
