Our Goal: To raise funds in order to award undergraduate students scholarships for pre-law resources and donate academic supplies to students from underserved communities.
According to the American Bar Association's 2020 Profile of the Legal Profession, less than 5% of lawyers identify as Latine or Hispanic. When considering the communities of color often impacted by the legal system the most, this percentage falls extremely short of the representation Latine people deserve under the law.
The Latinx Pre-Law Society (LPLS) at UC Berkeley was created as a promise to pursue change that betters not just the legal field, but society as a whole. Established in fall 2002, the purpose of the Latinx Pre-Law Society is to provide a solid professional, educational, supportive, and networking foundation for the Latine community within the legal profession, the population at UC Berkeley, and the community at large. LPLS is a non-partisan organization that focuses on a progressive agenda for preparing and empowering students of color to pursue a legal education or career.
We are currently crowdfunding to raise funds that will go directly to two initiatives:
While LPLS engages in community fundraisers throughout the year to provide these resources, this crowdfunding project ensures individuals from historically underserved communities feel supported and seen within the legal field.
Together, we can uplift the change that needs to happen in law and justice. Thank you for your generosity and championing our cause.
