The Bearettes Drill Team at Berkeley

Who We Are

Since 2015, the Bearettes's mission is to serve underrepresented communities and the greater Cal community, as a group of students that demonstrate diversity, inclusion, and empowerment through performance and discipline. We strive to create a space where students from different backgrounds, communities, and cultures can come together to portray Berkeley through a different lens. Thus, we aspire to bring spirit to and provide a space for people of color to feel proud and showcase their talents on Berkeley's campus. We will do so by honoring and recognizing the history of dance and majorette dance to minority communities.

Why Donate?

While we are excited to participate and show the Berkeley community our performances and dances, as a fairly new group, we are still accountable for providing the majority of our own funds. As an organization whose core values lie in inclusion, we do not want to create a financial barrier for students that cannot afford the attire that we purchase individually for the team. Because of this, we’d like to fundraise and seek funding as much as possible and work hard to reach these goals. Every year thus far we have purchased our own uniforms, but we are looking forward to fundraising for new, more permanent and longer lasting uniforms, warm-up jackets and pants for current and new members of 2023-2024. We hope to also use the funds for internal and external events for the community such as our futures showcase and banquet.

For our banquet, we hope to invite the community and donors to meet and thank everyone in person. Not only that, this event highlights our team members and their accomplishments as we continue to grow as a team. For our showcase, we hope to invite other cultural groups so that we can learn and support each other here at the UC Berkeley campus. We will also give our team members the opportunity to individually perform and showcase their talent to the UC Berkeley community. This year, 2023, will be our first year hosting a showcase, and we hope to continue this event and make it an even larger event!
