California Cognitive Science Conference

The Cognitive Science Students Association (CSSA) is fundraising for the California Cognitive Science Conference that we organize and host every year!

CSSA is an undergraduate organization at UC Berkeley, aiming to support and enrich the academic life of anyone interested in Cognitive Science. Cognitive Science is the interdisciplinary study of the brain and mind. It uses fields such as neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, linguistics, computer science, social cognition, and others to try to shed light on how the mind works. We strive to build a sense of community for those passionate about cognitive science and provide valuable opportunities for personal, academic, and career development.

We regularly coordinate academic events such as guest lectures and information sessions; plan social events like student-teacher dinners and Cog Sci themed gatherings; and work with Cog Sci faculty to provide assistance for students. Additionally, CSSA has an academic outreach program where we partner with local elementary schools to teach fourth graders about the brain and foster an interest in STEM. 

Our biggest event of the year, however, is our annual California Cognitive Science Conference. The California Cognitive Science Conference (CCSC) is an annual, day-long symposium bringing together hundreds of students, researchers, and members of the general public from around the world who are passionate about the interdisciplinary field of Cognitive Science. We feature talks given by prominent scientists and thinkers from a wide variety of disciplines. Our acclaimed poster session provides undergraduates with the opportunity to present their own original research alongside graduate students and professional researchers. Our theme for this year’s 14th annual conference is Forging Connections: Bonding & the Brain and will be all about the ways in which we connect and relate to each other!!

Organizing CCSC is no easy feat: from booking the venue to flying in speakers, a lot of planning and creativity is involved in order to provide our community with an incredible and enriching experience. Therefore, all funds raised will be allocated to organizing next year’s conference. Your support is essential to the execution of our event. Here is a breakdown of our budget:
