Support Berkeley Graduate Students in Food Policy Coalition Building in Washington DC!

The Berkeley Food Institute develops current and future leaders’ capacities to cultivate diverse, just, resilient, and healthy food systems. Through our programs in community engagement, education, research, and policy, we support 155 affiliated faculty and staff working on food and agriculture on the UC Berkeley campus while influencing the trajectories of thousands of students through a variety of student programs and experiential learning opportunities.

Students at previous Farm Bill Summit in DC.This spring, we are excited to bring five graduate students to the nation’s capital to attend Pointing the Farm Bill Towards Racial Justice: A Summit and Briefing from April 30 – May 2, 2023. BFI planned this event in partnership with the Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund (FSC/LAF), and American University’s Center for Environment, Community, and Equity (CECE) and their Antiracist Research & Policy Center (ARPC). This event will dive into the 2023 Farm Bill Reauthorization Process through a lens of racial justice, climate resilience, and rural and urban coalition building, and builds off a similar event held in 2017 that examined the policy, politics, and potential of the 2018 Farm Bill. We are thrilled to bring UC Berkeley graduate students into this major event that facilitates their learning and exposure to diverse policy environments.

Where will my gift go? In order to make sure the cost of attending is not shouldered by the students, a gift of $1,500 can fund one graduate student’s travel, meals, and lodging costs, putting our goal of funding 5 graduate students at $7,500.
