Why donate to Indus?

Indus is UC Berkeley’s premier, non-profit, South Asian student organization with over 200 UC Berkeley members and a strong alumni network. We seek to spread awareness of South Asian culture and construct a national network of friendly competition and camaraderie through major intercollegiate competitions. By facilitating cultural events, we aim to encourage awareness and education about the South Asian community throughout the larger UC Berkeley campus.

UCB Indus Council   

One of our main events includes Bollywood Berkeley, the West coast's largest intercollegiate Bollywood Fusion dance competition. This annual event brings together dance teams from colleges across the nation to compete and showcase their talent, with over 1,000 attendees expected this year. Last year, teams that competed included Penn Masti, UCSC Kahani, USC Zeher, and SJSU Sahaara all competed. In addition to the main competition, we also hold a mixer for the teams as well as a celebration after the competition that is open to all Berkeley students. 

Bollywood Berkeley 2023

Another large event we host annually is Raas-Garba, which is an exciting evening full of dance, music and joy. This event is integral to South Asian communities across the world and helps us bring together hundreds in the spirit of community dance. Garba is traditionally a dance done during a nine-day festival in the autumn season. Putting on this event at UC Berkeley allows students to stay in touch with their culture and learn more about different South Asian traditions.

Other events we host include Anahat Acapella, a Cultural Showcase, and mixers through which we hope to integrate the South Asian community on campus, and allow anyone to experience our culture. Anahat is a competition similar to Bollywood Berkeley where 8 teams from across the country are chosen to compete and show off their talent in front of a large audience. We hope that this event will help spread South Asian music and culture across campus and the country!

These events make up the majority of the costs we have every year. Every dollar donated will allow us to host better, more captivating events and provide a better experience for everyone that attends! Below we have listed the major costs we have to give you a better insight into why we need your donation.

Donating to Indus will allow us to host more events, find better venues, increase capacity at events, and even have guest performers! Overall, every donation is used to help our community have a better experience at every event we host!
