Cal Equestrian was born to directly challenge the notion that horseback riding is for the wealthy and privileged.
Our competitions are structured such that all riders, whether they have competed in Grand Prix or never ridden a horse before, will have a chance to compete and win points as an individual and for the team. At IHSA competitions, team members compete on the hosting school’s horses. This means you don’t need to own a horse to compete, which significantly reduces the cost of riding.
We try to keep our team dues as low as possible to make the equestrian sport affordable and accessible for our members. This unfortunately means that they barely cover the cost of the lessons and membership dues, let alone horse care, riding apparel, travel, and more.
Thanks to the personal sacrifices and hard work of our team members and supporters, Cal Equestrian has been able to stay running and we have become increasingly competitive in recent years. In 2019, two of our riders won at the regional competition to qualify for zone finals (which include all qualified riders from Washington State, Oregon, California, Colorado, Montana, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Kansas, Nebraska, and British Columbia). Come 2020, three of our riders qualified for zone finals. Notably, our president placed 5th at nationals in the 2022-2023 season.
Founded upon teamwork, horsemanship, and sportsmanship, the team works to provide a rewarding experience and lifelong friendships for all of its members. The Cal Equestrian Team is a tight-knit family, where every member takes joy in coming together and sharing their passion with each other. Your support makes an incredible impact on our community and helps us achieve our goals!
