California Squash | 2023-2024 Campaign

The California Squash team was created 54 years ago in 1969 and has a rich history of multiple national titles including one last year in which the team won the Serues Cup. Last year, we finished with a record of 10-4 which placed us inside the Top 10 club teams in the United States last year. Although it was a great achievement, The Serues Cup is the second best trophy that a club Squash team can win and this year we aim to take him the Chaffee Cup, the best trophy that a club team can win. However, in order to do this, we must compete against higher ranked opponents, varsity teams, and we must also have more practices with higher intensity. To do this, we need additional funding from donors like you to make this lofty goal a reality. Our teams success and funding heavily rely on our community’s support, so any donations are greatly appreciated.

Team talk before National Finals

This year, we plan to spend about $50,000 across the season. We plan to travel to more in order to compete against better opponentsand to keep our players sharp as we approach Nationals. We have a thirteen-player roster this year and in order to cover flights, hotels, court reservations, league fees, and other fees, we need increased funding to ensure that we can go on all of these trips. Our budget for the year is shown below

Throughout the past few years, we have severely lacked funding, which is the reason we have not been able to take the next step to competing in the First Division of club teams in the United States. However, we are optimistic about this season with three freshman recruits coming in as well as keeping all but two of our players from last year. We feel it that this is going to be a good season. Our success this year is completely dependent on where we finish in the rankings at the end of the year, the bare minimum is an improvement from 9th position last year, and the goal, of course, is to be the best club team in the nation.

One of the things that we as a team aspire to do is be able to provide a place for new players to come in and learn the sport of Squash whether that be at Berkeley or anywhere else. We have started a campaign along with some local Squash clubs, in which we as a team head out to local gyms and play with younger kids, so that they get interested in the sport of Squash. We want to grow Squash as a whole and will inspire more kids to play. All in all, your donation would help not only our traveling team, but also the growing Squash community around UC Berkeley.
