MCB Class of 2024 Campaign

Empower the next generation of students with research stipends and travel awards!

Students cite their research experiences as one of the most impactful and transformative experiences of their undergraduate careers. Exposure to cutting-edge research provides invaluable opportunities for our students to uncover fascinating truths about the life sciences and ignites their passion for the inspiring work they go on to do in the future.

Your gift to the MCB class of 2024 campaign will allow us to support our incredibly driven, committed and talented students by creating $1,000 research award stipends and $250 travel grant awards to allow more MCB majors to have these positive experiences. Funds raised will provide research stipends and travel grants to declared MCB majors in the 2024-2025 academic year that secure a research placement in an academic or non-profit lab. Focus will be placed on students that are undertaking research for the first time, have financial need, and or are from underrepresented backgrounds.

.We need your help to make a big impact! Please join us to reach the MCB Class of 2024’s campaign goal of $5,000 and leave a lasting legacy for the next generation. No gift is too small to make a positive difference in the lives of our students!...

Go Bears!

Voices of Community Support

Jocelyn Liang (MCB Sponsored Research Award Recipient, 2023) | "Through the lens of biology, I've learned to see the world in a new light. I am truly honored to receive the MCB Research Award, and it reaffirms my commitment to the field of molecular and cell biology and inspires me to continue exploring the endless possibilities of this fascinating discipline. I am grateful for the opportunities that this award has opened up for me, and I am eagerly looking forward to the next phase of my research journey."

Johnny Luu (MCB Sponsored Research Award Recipient, 2023) | "Emerging from the pandemic posed a multitude of hurdles that made it difficult to seek the right resources and opportunities, especially when finally coming in person as a first-generation second-year. It is an honor receiving this award, as it acknowledges the gritty resilience of coming from an underprivileged background to consequently contribute to the advancement of research and academia. I hope to stand as representation for others that are facing these similar challenges and how powerful it is to stay determined!"

Brynn Norby (MCB Sponsored Research Award Recipient, 2023) | "As a transfer student who did not have access to research opportunities before attending Berkeley - receiving this award allows me to focus on a research project that has empowered me as a scientist and a student. Being able to study the neuroendocrine effects of stress on female reproductive health even inspired me to co-found a DeCal course on the science of menstruation and female reproductive health with another undergraduate student in my lab, which enables undergraduates to learn about their own reproductive health, rights and destigmatize menstruation. This award means so much to me, so thank you to everyone who made it possible!"

Emre Uludag (MCB Sponsored Research Award Recipient, 2023| "As a first-generation immigrant student, I faced many challenges when I moved to the US with limited resources. However, I remained determined to pursue my passion for medicine and research, and sought out opportunities to develop my skills and knowledge. The sponsored research award from the UC Berkeley MCB Class of 2023 Campaign has been instrumental in allowing me to pursue my research with greater depth and impact. As a recipient of this award, I was allowed to pursue innovative ideas and make meaningful contributions to my field, while also being given the resources and confidence to pursue my academic and career goals with renewed vigor."
Natalie Jia Qing Liang (MCB Sponsored Research Award Recipient, 2024"Receiving this award will greatly help me develop my passion for research and allow me to spend more time doing what I love. It is extremely beneficial to me as a first-generation student to receive this award and hopefully contribute something meaningful to immunology!"

Meralda Jeong (MCB Sponsored Research Award Recipient, 2024) "Being MCB student at Berkeley is an open door for me to have an enlightening, new vision of the world. Receiving the MCB Research Award is an incredible honor that strengthens my dedication to the world of Biology and fuels my passion for delving into the vast potential of this intriguing research field. This award has and will unlocked numerous opportunities for me, guiding me to the new voyage of the next big world of my research adventure!"
Phyllis Tameilau (MCB Sponsored Research Award Recipient, 2024) |"I am so grateful and honored to have received this award. As a transfer student, it was difficult to find research opportunities with more limited time. As a recipient, I feel supported and inspired to pursue research in neurobiology and am excited for how this prepares me in my future endeavors. Thank you to everyone who made this possible!"

Iswar Hariharan (MCB Professor) "I can still remember the excitement that I experienced when I worked in a research lab for the first time - as an undergraduate. Our department is a great place for undergraduates to do research in labs that are doing some of the best science in the world. We want as many of our undergraduates as possible to spend more time in research labs so that they can experience the joy of discovery. Providing students with stipends for doing research will promote this goal. We are committed to raising funds in as many ways as possible to make this happen."

Clara Ng-Quinn (MCB Undergraduate Academic Advisor) “I have been a staff MCB advisor for 9 years, and I've watched so many students discover their passion in research. It's amazing to watch students connect their classroom learning to real research applications, and get involved in groundbreaking research projects at the same time! Research stipends will help us be able to better connect students to research opportunities. Your donation will open up so many doors for our MCB students; thank you for supporting undergraduate research!”
