Learn more about The Little Prince:

Adapted from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's 1943 novella of the same name, the opera tells the story of an aviator’s encounter with an imaginary “little prince” from an asteroid, his journey through different planets, and finally to his climatic disappearance from a desert. This production aims to pay tribute to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s novella, as well his letters with his wife, Consuelo de Saint-Exupéry, published recently in 2021 that shed new insights into his masterpiece.

The opera’s musical range spans across an extensive number of styles - from swing jazz to Disney-esque duet ballads to Chinese opera - while also cheekily quoting famous works of Mozart, Schoenberg, and Cindy Cox. The orchestration includes a combination of Western orchestral instruments and traditional Chinese instruments (such as guzheng, suona, and erhu), creating a unique and multicultural texture of sound.
