AIAS Fundraising Mission

Our Mission

The mission of The American Institute of Architecture Students is to strive for excellence in architectural education and practice, foster a passion for architecture and related fields, enlighten communities and welcome collaboration, and urge students to join efforts to advance the multifaceted discipline of architecture. We are fundraising for competitions, workshops, and conferences throughout the school year, and to create a rewarding experience for all our members.

We are planning to use the funds as soon as we receive them, since we host events that require funding on a regular basis. They will be used over the course of the semester to host professional and social events and to enhance mentorship connections between members.

Recently, we launched a new student publication TRACE and an annual design competition last year and hope to continue providing opportunities for students to express their creativity outside of studio courses and to network with architects. Together, we hope to enhance our members' educational experience, inspire innovative thinking, and empower our members to become leaders in the field of architecture.

We are an independently run student organization that depends on the generosity of the Berkeley community. We intend to provide crucial resources such as architecture magazines celebrating student work, free participation in design competitions, travel fee coverage to conferences; additionally, we also aim to provide additional funding to host professional workshops and portfolio review. We have now about 45 members with about 14 traveling to conferences. In this past school year, our organization has spent a total of over $1000 on booking hotels and flights to conferences, $200 on printing magazine publications, and $175 on hosting design competitions. While we have limited internal fundraisers and funding, we would be thankful to receive external support from our community to continue the efforts of our organization and allow it to thrive to its fullest capacity.

Budget Breakdown

Based on our budget from the previous school year, 45% of our funding went to hosting design workshops and preparing for design competitions. 23% was distributed to printing and distribution of our student led Trace Magazine, 20% on school supplies, 8% on professional social and networking events, and the remaining 5% on ASUC student government chapter dues. As a professional organization whose events rely heavily on funding, we hope to continue our initiative of supporting architecture students, and would like to thank all donors for making all these amazing professional events possible. We will continue to fundraise and run our organization if we do not reach our goals, but your support in the mean time is a crucial for the continued success of AIAS.
