Who We Are
The “Elder Welfare Mentorship” club is an inclusive student organization at UC Berkeley, built on the belief that mentorship is a mutual exchange of knowledge and companionship, benefiting both students and senior citizens. Our primary objective is to empower senior citizens with technology skills, provide entertainment, and offer meaningful companionship while affording our students the invaluable opportunity to learn from our elder community members' life wisdom and experiences. Understanding that not every student has the privilege of having grandparents in their lives and that not every senior citizen has the opportunity to be a grandparent, we aim to provide the Berkeley community a sense of respect and shared learning between generations, where knowledge, experiences, and wisdom are cherished and passed on.
WE AIM TO
- Empower senior citizens with technology skills to help them stay connected and engaged.
- Provide meaningful companionship through regular visits and interactions.
- Create intergenerational exchanges where students can learn from elders' wisdom and life experiences.
Our Goal: $2000
This semester, we hope to raise $2000 to support our efforts over the fall, spring, and summer months. The funds will be used as follows:
- $1100 – Technology Equipment (tablets, smartphones, etc.) to help senior citizens learn and stay connected.
- $300 – Workshops & Training (organizing and facilitating technology workshops with expert speakers and resources).
- $300 – Entertainment & Social Events (movie nights, game days, and other gatherings to foster companionship).
- $150 – Transportation Costs (for students visiting senior centers and seniors attending our events).
- $150– Marketing & Outreach (to promote our events and ensure greater community participation).
This budget provides a rough estimate only and actual expenditures may vary.
By supporting our project, you are:
- Helping us bridge generational gaps.
- Enriching the lives of both senior citizens and UC Berkeley students.
- Creating a platform for intergenerational learning and respect.
- Empowering seniors with technology skills.
- Providing seniors and students with companionship and meaningful experiences.
- Create lasting connections between students and elders, promoting respect and mutual understanding across generations.
Even if we don’t fully meet our goal, we will prioritize:
- Marketing and outreach to build a larger community presence, ensuring future sustainability and growth. By increasing awareness and participation through targeted promotion, we will gradually expand our capacity to organize more entertainment and social events for our senior citizens. Our ultimate aim is to foster deeper connections and engagement between students and seniors, and even with partial funding, we can work toward this by ensuring a steady influx of participants and supporters who share our vision.
