Thank you to all the amazing donors who have helped us reach our initial goal, SASC is extremely grateful for everyone's continued support!
Our New Goal is $5,000!
Founded 25 years ago in response to an increasing Southeast Asian (SEA) refugee population following the American Wars in Southeast Asia, the Southeast Asian Student Coalition (SASC) has acted to build crucial support systems for low-income and first-generation Southeast Asian Americans. Today, SASC has sponsored and created many Southeast Asian campus events (the Southeast Asian Cultural Festival (SEACF), the Southeast Asian Orientation (SEASO), SEAsgiving, and SEAgraduation (SEAgrad)) and helped develop Southeast Asian student groups through funding and structural support. Recognizing the challenges of college entry, SASC launched the Southeast Asian Mentorship Project (SEAM), inviting SEA high school students across California to experience Berkeley and participate in a semester-long mentorship program. Our events range from our new student orientation to our high school mentorship project, which has solidified our Southeast Asian American (SEAA) communities as we face unique challenges and hurdles. As we look into the future, SASC will continue its duty to support those who are here already and those who will carry on the torch of our SEAA communities.
About: The Southeast Asian Mentorship Program, a subcommittee of SASC, is dedicated to supporting and guiding Southeast Asian high school students. Through this program, mentors educate students about Southeast Asian culture and the SEA student experience. They focus on preparing mentees for the challenges of university life, offering guidance and insights to help them navigate this transition.
Goals: The program’s ultimate goal is to ensure that students are well-prepared, informed, and equipped to thrive in their university journey as Southeast Asian students.
Budget Outline: Estimated expenses total to $12,375.32

About: Our SEASO event is designed for both incoming and current students who are interested in joining SASC or becoming more engaged in the Southeast Asian community. At this event, SASC facilitates various community-bonding activities to help students connect and build long-lasting relationships. Additionally, SASC highlights important statistical data on the underrepresentation and misrecognition of Southeast Asian students at UC Berkeley while also offering advice from various alumni.
Goals: The primary goal of SEASO is to introduce students to SASC's mission and welcome them into our close-knit community, with the aspirations of creating a stronger, more empowered future for Southeast Asian students.
Budget Outline: Total expenses equal to $1,516.74

About: Our SEAsgiving event mirrors a traditional Thanksgiving celebration, where students come together to share a communal meal and reflect on what they’re grateful for over the past year. SASC organizes various activities, from pumpkin decorating to gingerbread house making, fostering collaboration and a friendly sense of competition among participants. In addition, the event features a donation drive, with all contributions going to support the Southeast Asian Resource Center in San Francisco.
Goals: SEAsgiving is a time for gratitude, where attendees can express their thanks and celebrate their proudest achievements from the past year. It is also where participants can find a home far away from home while forming vital relationships with one another.
Budget Outline: Total expenses equal to $2,387

Goals: SASC aims to highlight and promote each organization, raising awareness of its presence within UC Berkeley. The festival serves as a platform to share the vibrant traditions of Southeast Asian countries, offering attendees a deeper understanding and connection with their unique cultural backgrounds.
Budget Outline: Total expenses equal to $3,584.90

About: SEAGrad is dedicated to recognizing the achievements of the graduating Southeast Asian senior class, whose contributions often go unnoticed at UC Berkeley. To honor their accomplishments, SASC hosts this special event. Unlike the larger UC Berkeley graduation, SEAGrad offers a more intimate setting where each student's achievements are individually celebrated and acknowledged. Graduating seniors also have the opportunity to give a speech, sharing their personal journeys, challenges, successes, and any reflections they wish to express.
Goals: This event provides a meaningful platform for students to be formally recognized for their hard work and dedication at UC Berkeley.
Budget Outline: Total expenses equal to $3,494.64
