Our Crowdfunding Groups
Cal Women's Rugby (CWR) was formed in 1998. It is an entirely student-operated team where all finances and expenses are covered by donations, fundraising, and player dues. We foster a competitive and supportive atmosphere for womxn to learn the amazing sport of rugby. CWR is a no-cut sport, as most people discover and begin playing rugby in college. In fact, almost all of our team learned what rugby is and how to play on this team. This year, we have a roster of around forty students. We are very proud of this number, as it has been challenging to rebuild our team after the COVID years. In our 2022 season, we struggled to field a team for most of our matches and lost all of our league games.
CWR is a D1 club team. We compete in the Pacific Mountain Rugby Conference against Chico State, Fresno State, UC Davis, Sac State, and Stanford. In the this last 2024 season, we hit the ground running and were determined to become one of the most dominant teams in our league. With a strong group of rookies and returnees, we went 6-2 in the league and qualified for playoffs. CWR advanced to the quarterfinals of the CRAA D1 Club playoffs and placed in the Top 7 in the nation!
For the 2025 season, our collective goals are to win our league, become 15s National Champions, and, of course, beat Stanford! To achieve these goals, we may need to rent off-campus fields for additional practices, travel to four different cities for league competitions, participate in two weekends of playoffs in an undetermined location, and travel to nationals, which is likely out of state.
CWR will use the funds raised to pay for travel to games, compensate our coaches fairly for their hard work, and other team costs. One of our main goals at CWR is to go to playoffs and nationals. These weekends can be expensive trips depending on the location. Also, at CWR we emphasize that we are not just a rugby team but also a community and family that spans over twenty-five years! We are very fortunate to have some committed alumni and local rugby experts who help to run and coach our team. Their value to our team is indescribable and we hope to give them fair compensation. Part of the funds we raise will help us pay our amazing coaches who donate their time and knowledge to our team!

We appreciate your support and are committed to win this season! If we don't reach our funding goal, we will still use the raised funds to cover the expenses outlined in our project plan to have a successful season. Go Bears!

For donations of $250 or more, you can pick the player of your choice to shoot the boot (with water). *Shooting the boot is a rugby tradition where a player chugs a drink out of their boot/cleat*
