Who Are We?
The Cal Equestrian Club practices and competes in American equitation riding. The club competes in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association, which allows students of all experience levels to join the team regardless of access to horses. When at competitions, the host college provides the horses. Riders are randomly assigned to a horse and compete against other collegiate riders with similar riding experiences. Levels range from walk/trot on the flat to 3 ft over fences.
Our History
The Cal Equestrian Team was Founded in 2010. The team joined the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association for the 2011-2012 season. The team competes against other Zone 8 Region 1 teams including Stanford University, Cal Poly, UC Davis, and UC Santa Cruz. For the 2022-2023 season, Cal Equestrian sent a rider to IHSA Nationals. This year marks the team's first year with a new coach and new facility.
We are thrilled to be riding with Paxton LLC at Willow and Wolf in Livermore. At this new program, we hope to renew the Cal Equestrian competitive spirit and send our team to Nationals for the first time.
Your Impact
Our goal is to raise funds to support our team's horses, and riders in their ambitions to compete at Nationals. This year the team is very grateful to have received their first horse donations. The addition of donated horses offers a greater number of lesson opportunities for team members, a greater number of competition opportunities for team members, and the opportunity for Cal to host a colligate show. However, the addition of these horses also means additional costs. Traditionally, the team split fees between members. To keep team fees at a minimum, funds from Crowdfunding will be used to cover these additional monthly horse fees. Extra funds will be used to support riders who need financial support with paying team dues and to cover travel costs that might discourage or prohibit a member from competing at regionals, zones, or nationals.
Funds Breakdown
The team's horses will cost around $1,000 a month. The first $8,000 collected during Crowd Funding will go to horse care. The remaining $2,000 of our goal will go to supporting riders with their team dues, lesson costs, and travel costs.
