Help us get to Nationals 2025!

Who We Are

Cal Men's Ultimate was formed in 1989 as a member of what is now USA Ultimate's D-I College division. Our team competes at high-level tournaments throughout California and across the country. Each college ultimate season culminates in a national tournament featuring the 20 best teams, with representatives from each of 8 regions.

In our history we have made Nationals nine times, with four of those appearances coming since 2019. In 2022 we saw our best result since 2010, with a 5th place finish in the country. In 2023 and 2024, we made nationals twice more, breaking seed both times. Last year, we came back from a 9-4 deficit to win 11-10 and earn our bid to nationals.

Heading into the 2024-2025 season, we feel that our 14 returning players are more bought into fighting for Cal Ultimate than ever. Each of us is equipped with an extra season of experience under our belts, and we are looking to reach even higher successes. This year we will attend two fall pre-season tournaments, four regular season tournaments in the spring, and up to three postseason tournaments culminating in the college championships. Our team's goal this year is to win the D-I College Championship. This requires us to make nationals for the fourth year in a row. To make nationals, we must compete and succeed in tournaments around the country, which have been as far as Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Beyond the costs of travel and lodging, we have to get jerseys, pay bid fees to tournaments, and purchase off-campus practice fields (along with any miscellaneous fees).

Ultimate frisbee is an expensive and exclusive sport. Our top priority as a program is to provide financial aid to players who aren't able to afford these costs. We believe that no one should ever be restricted access from ultimate due to financial reasons. In the past, crowdfunding has been huge for us in procuring the budget we need to pay these costs. Our fundraising goal is to raise $5,500. $3,000 would go to flights to travel tournaments and other travel fees such as rental cars, hotels, and food costs. $1,400 would go to financial aid for players in need. This money can go towards uniforms, flights, and hotels for students who cannot afford them. $1000 would go towards tournament bid fees, which are often $500. This would cover our two fall-preseason tournaments.

Cost breakdown per person

- Flights: $800 per person

- Lodging: $350 per person

- Rental cars & gas: $250 per person

- Bid fees: $250 per person

- Food: $200 per person

- Practice fields: $60 per person

- Uniforms: $50 per person

Frisbee in not inexpensive, and the costs of these events take a toll on the players' bank accounts. Your donations will greatly aid in making these expenses a lot more affordable for our team and our players. Donate whatever you can, any amount is appreciated!

If we can't reach our goal, then our first priority will be fulfilling financial aid needs. We will still be able to work towards our goal of making nationals!

Associated Costs

The costs to play Ultimate can be lot for a college student to bear. Here's a breakdown:

Why Support Us?

In order to compete at the highest level of college ultimate, we must travel across the state and country to face other top opponents in tournaments. These tournaments include expensive travel costs such as airfare, hotels, rental cars, and gas.

Cal Ultimate prides itself on not letting any financial barriers prevent people from being a part of our team. We provide as much financial assistance as possible to players who need it, which can include covering their flight and hotel costs for tournaments.

In order to earn a bid to nationals we need to compete against teams from all over the country. Your donations will make competing at these tournaments accessible for players of all backgrounds on our team. Our players and leadership are more bought in than ever this year and know that with the proper funding, we will make it to Nationals! Below is a graphic of our travel schedule from last year's regular season.
