Why We Need Your Help

Many of our students lack the financial resources to cover the full cost of this tour, and in today’s challenging economic environment, philanthropy plays a crucial role in bridging that gap. Your donation will directly fund essential needs like student scholarships, travel expenses, lodging, meals, and instrument transportation. Here’s how your gift can make a difference:
  • $50 helps cover transportation costs for a student between concert venues.
  • $100 helps cover meals for a student
  • $250 supports large instrument rentals (such as a cello or bass)
  • $500 helps cover sheet music and rental
  • $1,000 provides for a student’s lodging for several nights
  • $2,000 provides a celebratory post-performance dinner for the orchestra
  • $6,000 supports a full tour scholarship for one student musician

Every contribution, large or small, brings our students closer to this extraordinary opportunity. With your support, we can ensure that every musician has the chance to be part of this unforgettable experience.

By giving, you are providing more than just financial support—you’re creating life-changing opportunities. Your generosity will allow all of our students to embark on this once-in-a-lifetime journey, regardless of financial need. Past tours have brought international recognition and acclaim to our orchestra, and this year’s performances in Berlin, Prague, Vienna, and Krakow will offer our musicians an unparalleled chance to shine on the global stage. We hope you’ll consider making a gift today and help bring this exciting vision to life!

About the UCBSO

UCBSO Spring Semi-Formal, Spring 2023

With over 100 years of history, the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra is the longest-standing orchestra in the UC system. Composed of approximately 120 UC Berkeley undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and community members, the orchestra is a testament to the depth of musical talent at our university. Despite many of our musicians pursuing fields outside of music—ranging from biostatistics to law—their dedication to the orchestra is unwavering. Each member rehearses twice weekly, united by a shared love for music and a sense of community.

The diversity of our ensemble members makes the UCBSO a vital part of the UC Berkeley community. The orchestra has consistently delivered compelling performances of challenging repertoire, and now we aim to raise awareness of our outstanding musical achievements on an international level. Touring in four of Europe’s most renowned cities will elevate UC Berkeley’s reputation and the caliber of our music program to a broader audience.

All donations are tax-deductible, and contributors will receive an official university tax acknowledgment.
