Welcome to Golden Records!

Who Are We?

We at Golden Records are creating an inclusive creative community based on our shared love of music. We help fulfill our mission by arranging competitions, performances, raves, networking events, and more. We are also proud of our DeCal class which teaches music production to interested students. While these activities are incredibly exciting for us, they can also be expensive! We are fundraising to help with venue booking fees, audio equipment rentals, and promoting student-led events. We hope that with additional resources we can grow our community.    

We plan on using funds to help host great events that push forward music culture at Berkeley. Successful fundraising will open really exciting opportunities to throw more elaborate shows, work with more well-known artists, and let us host in bigger, better venues.    

We’ve historically thrown events such as our flagship rave, The Tunnel, near campus in smaller venues. We have held 3 Tunnels so far, with all student DJs sharing their love for underground and experimental music that is found at no other venue in Berkeley. More funding will allow us to book more professional-level venues which will ease logistical difficulties, lead to higher capacity shows, and generally create a more enjoyable experience for the entire community and our guests.

Golden Records is also involved in a partnership with the established record label EMPIRE with the express purpose of uplifting women in the industry through our SHE’S WRITE workshops. A portion of these funds will go towards transportation costs and assistance for those who participate in this program. Even if our goal isn't reached, we'll still use any funds we receive towards the previously mentioned initiatives. Every little bit helps, and we are grateful for any support you can give!

All estimates are rough only, and actual expenditures may vary.

Venue bookings ($500-$1000): 

We plan on using part of our budget to book venues for our amazing events. This could include: 

• Industry speakers/special guests to help educate our community about the ins and outs of the music business
• The Tunnel, our signature rave 
• Club socials for strengthening our community and talent development
• Networking Events, such as SHE’S WRITE, for career preparation

Transportation and accommodations ($100-$200):

Part of our budget will go towards accommodations and transport to support SHE’S WRITE workshops that work to help expand gender diversity in the music industry.  

Investing in audio equipment rentals or full purchases ($300 - $1000):

Some of our budget will help rent equipment that allows us to host high-production, professional-grade DJ events. The equipment we need to rent includes subwoofers and PA speakers. 

Promoting student-led events ($100-200):

Part of our budget will be used to promote our students and the events they work so hard to contribute to. This could include: 

• Physical flyering + posters
• Tabling
• In-person outreach events
