Opening Ceremony: 5/4 1 - 4pm

April 29, 2025

April has been a busy month for us. We've been scrambling to finish our nursery, install an automatic irrigation system, assemble our greenhouse benches, construct a shade structure, and populate the space with all the tools and supplies we will need!

If you'd like to see our finished Garden Manager Hub (that you helped make a reality) please join us this Sunday 5/4 from 1 - 4pm at Rochdale Village Apartments in Berkeley. Coopers from across the BSC, students and alumni passionate about food sovereignty and ecology will gather to celebrate our year of garden improvements. Please email bsc@gmc.coop to RSVP so we know how much food to get. We hope to see you there!

Our Greenhouse Arrived!

March 31, 2025
Strong Foundations:
With a few dozen bags of gravel, some screws and levels, we got to work on the next stages of our nursery. To last long and function well, our greenhouse needs a solid foundation with good drainage and weed-proof flooring. Fueled by pizza, boba and the early Spring sun we quickly finished our foundation.

And just last week, our long awaited greenhouse arrived!

We called on recent graduates and friends with experience in construction to help us assemble our greenhouse (think a several thousand part, several hundred step Ikea piece that takes 24 hours to complete). In just one day, we built the frame with very few hiccups. We can't wait to finish the rest of the assembly! In the coming weeks we'll populate our nursery with workbenches, grow tables, shade structures and more which are all en route.

None of this would've been possible without your support. Thanks again for your donation, and keep an eye out for an invitation to our greenhouse opening day in early May!

We Exceeded Our Goal!

March 05, 2025

Thank you for your contribution to the BSC Garden Revitalization.

With your generosity we've exceeded our original fundraising goal, raising $5,000!

With nothing holding us back now, we've hit the ground running. This past week, prepared our site by leveling soil, relocating our tool shed, and making sure our sunniest garden location is reserved for our prefabricated greenhouse.

Needless to say, it was all of our first times moving an entire shed by hand... By the end of our sunny workday we were exhausted and couldn't believe how much we got done. And our timing has aligned perfectly: our greenhouse arrives this afternoon. We are in for an exciting few weeks of assembly!

Until next time,

BSC Garden Managers and friends

We've Broken Ground!

February 24, 2025
Yesterday we reached our fundraising goal, this weekend Daily Cal published an article about our efforts, and last week broke ground on our Garden Manager Hub! To keep this momentum going, OUR NEW FUNDRAISING GOAL IS NOW $5,500!

This momentous week for the Garden Managers marks almost exactly one year since the meeting where we first dreamt of a nursery that supplies plants across our coop system. During our construction workday last week we discussed the most up-to-date floor plan of the hub (see below), informed by our design workshop in December. And in less than two hours, we completely cleaned up the site from trash, storage and weeds! We also leveled the soil to create a foundation for a relocated storage shed, ensuring our greenhouse has the most sun exposure possible. How far we have come in just one year! Many thanks to Gwenyth, Millie, Meadow, Elijah, Jordan, and Jade for all the help. And thank you in advance for your support in turning our dreams into a reality!
