Pie Queens Ultimate | Fall 2025 Fundraiser

Who are we?

As UC Berkeley's nationally-competitive D1 women's ultimate frisbee team, Pie Queens is dedicated to creating a welcoming environment where athletes of all experience levels and backgrounds can come to unleash their competitive spirit and become a part of an incredibly supportive ultimate community that goes far beyond college. We hope to raise funds to keep the program open to all players interested in joining regardless of their financial situation. In addition to offsetting team dues for all players, we will also use funds to finance our BIPOC and need-based support funds to keep the program open to all.

In the fall, we play as one big Pie Queens program where the focus is on team bonding and skill development. Then in the spring, we split into our nationally competitive and regionally competitive teams, the Queens and Tarts, to take on the competitive season. We have eight awesome coaches who generously volunteer their time to keep this program as strong as it is. As a full program, we get to take our teams to 10+ tournaments in a school year! Why support us?

We are asking for your support so that the financial burden of being a player on this team does not deter anyone from joining. As a club sport team, we are almost entirely self-funded and it is incredibly difficult to cover team costs with only the dues we pay as players. Your donation will make the program more accessible by:

• Offsetting team dues (which include costs such as tournament bid fees, jerseys, discs, transportation to and from tournaments, housing, field space, and coaches' travel expenses)
• Funding our BIPOC account which supports our program's BIPOC individuals on a need-based, no questions asked basis
• Providing need-based support to all members of our program

This year, we are determined to make nationals and all of us are ready to give the team everything we have. By donating to our program, you are helping us grow to our full potential! Many PQ alumni also go on to coach and are heavily involved in the Bay Area ultimate community and beyond. We’ve had current PQs coaching youth ultimate while still competing with us during our regular season!

In the case we do not meet our goal, we will reallocate funds to be evenly distributed amongst all our current breakdowns, including tournament bid fees, equipment, and travel expenses, as well as our BIPOC and need-based funds. In the case we surpass our goal, we will allocate additional funds for our future seasons since we retain similar cost breakdowns every season.

A little Pie Queens history...

Our program has been around since 1988 and has been growing ever since. Somewhere along the lines, our team made the life-changing decision to stop at a diner in Oakland called Lois the Pie Queen after a fantastic weekend of ultimate. The food was amazing, but the team agreed that the highlight of their meal was the pie! They offered a wide variety of pies, including apple, sweet potato, lemon ice box, berry, cherry, pecan...the list goes on! And so, the UC Berkeley Women's Ultimate team, the Pie Queens, found our namesake in this delicious local restaurant and have been loyal customers ever since. This Black-owned business has been serving delicious soul food for over 50 years, and we couldn't recommend supporting them enough!
