At the BSE, we don’t turn away from challenges. We rise to meet them.
Your gift to the Berkeley School of Education (BSE) Fellowship Fund directly supports PhD students and helps us unlock $10,000 in matching funds!
Each year, the BSE Fellowship Fund provides direct financial aid to PhD students. As unprecedented federal funding rollbacks compromise the education research enterprise, PhD student support is more important today than ever before. In recognition of this increased need, you can show your support by making a gift of any size to the BSE Fellowship Fund before the new year begins.
By making a gift today, you will:
- Provide direct aid to our bright and motivated students
- Join a community of donors dedicated to educational advocacy
- Send a clear, coherent, and collective message in support of education research

To better understand the importance of supporting education research, check out the following Q&A with Qing Cai, second year PhD student who researches assessment and measurement of reading:
What inspired you to become an education researcher? I want to understand literacy more deeply and create evidence-based solutions so that more children can experience the same joy, growth, and opportunities that reading has given my own child.
How would additional funding impact you? Without funding, my PhD dream would have remained a castle in the air. Funding has given me the independence to follow my passion in education research.
Why does education research matter? Education feeds the mind as water sustains life. To educate is to resist. In this moment, education research defends truth, justice and hope. For the next generation, we must never surrender!
In the words of Dean Michelle Young: At the BSE, we don’t turn away from challenges. We rise to meet them. Help us rise to meet this moment by making a donation today!
