Roses are red, Haasies are blue. We crushed these three years and now Haas needs you!

The Ask

Sweat equity (n) means turning tuition from the #1 PT MBA program into professional growth. Be it clubs, classes, recruiting or friends, Haas enabled much for us to be grateful for.

In one last reflection as a student (ahh!), we ask for financial generosity to enable future Haas students always to challenge the status quo, be confident without attitude, and go beyond themselves.

Shoot for the Moon, Land Among the Stars - The Goal

We crushed C4C as first-years so let’s go out on top! The best any class did before was $8,400 and 37% participation. This year’s target is $15,000 and 100% - nearly doubling our previous highs. Corporate matching is possible (ching!) and see below for more Q&A.; For our fellow quants:

• At 250 people, $15,000 = $60/person, or $30 if you have matching - that's less than a tank of gas. 

• If you’re feeling generous, and hey, why not:

  • $100 on a $50k salary = 0.20%

  • $250 on a $100k salary = 0.25%

  • $500 on a $150k PM salary (before all your awesome benefits) = 0.33%

  • $1,000 or more from your IB/Consulting sign-on bonus, or perhaps you’ll siphon funds from your Series-A round (biz dev, kind of!), bless you, that’s just plain Haasome 

The Truth on Giving - The Use

Whatever you give will be graciously put to use. Private donations support students with financial need, protect our amazing professors from poaching by private institutions with endowments 2-10x larger, and fund the buildings and resources that nurture leadership and excellence. What you give matters. Some of the areas past gifts went to include:

• EWMBA Program Support: New programs like WE Launch, Innovate, and Lead, expanded program office services and staff, and unique programs like SIB and Haas@Work.

• Faculty Excellence and Support: Retaining and recruiting top faculty - including new faculty added in the past year.

• Dean Lyons’ Initiatives: Funding for new initiatives like the Dean's Seed Funding Grants which was awarded to three EW teams. 

• Berkeley-Haas Schoolwide Support: Supports programs like the Dean’s Speaker Series, Haas Insights, and facility upgrades like the Connie & Kevin Chou Hall and library re-design.

• Student Excellence & Support - Funds for additional scholarships, Out of Bay Area Grants, and diversity recruitment.

A Closing Message - The Call to Action

We invested in ourselves for three years, now we can invest in the future. I know we likely have much debt to account for, yet please give what you can. Our beloved Haas needs this generosity to deliver future Berkeley Leaders to the world. Please contribute - we are confident (without attitude) you will be happy you did.

FAQ

• Can I break my gift into quarterly or monthly installments? Of course, you'll need to give on the main Berkeley-Haas Gifts website. Indicate "Evening & Weekend MBA" on the giving opportunity - or any other area for that matter - and you can choose monthly or quarterly gifts. This will not be reflected immediately on the crowdfunding website, but give us a few days, and we'll add it in manually. 

• Can I match? Absolutely! EIN = 94-6090626. Be sure to email Drew Ollero (ollero@haas.berkeley.edu) so we can be sure to give the campaign credit. We'll keep track and follow up to ensure it’s reflected in the total - just give us a few days, it's manual.

• Does matching count towards a swag gift? No, gross donations get swag, not net.

• Can I ask family/friends? Sure! We’ll still be checking the page to track student participation too.

• Can I choose where my donation goes? No, but rest assured that your gifts will benefit the Evening & Weekend Program to recruit and retain faculty, expand student and alumni services, and increase student scholarships.

• When is the campaign done? Technically it never ends, yet we’ll stop hounding you after graduation.

• Will I get a tax receipt? Yes, in an email confirmation.

• Does swag impact my tax deduction? Yes, you can report your charitable contribution minus the swag costs. At the $100 level, $8 is not tax-deductible due to the value of the travel mug. At the $500 level, $33 is not tax deductible due to the value of the travel mug and graduation stole.
