Suit Up Our 1Ls

New Goal of $10,000!

Thank you so much for your incredible support and for fulfilling the Berkeley Law Alumni Association's $3,000 Challenge! We're hoping to keep the momentum and raise $10,000 to help even more students access wardrobe grants. Every donation helps every Berkeley Law student enter their first interview with confidence, not financial worry.

The Recruiting Timeline Has Changed

Today's Berkeley Law students begin networking with employers and interviewing much earlier than many alumni did. As early as October of their first semester, students are expected to balance one of the nation's most rigorous law school curricula while preparing for interviews, employer receptions, and networking events. For students with financial need, purchasing professional interview attire adds another challenge during an already demanding transition.

Suit Up Our 1Ls helps remove that barrier.

How It Works

Your gift helps provide $500 wardrobe grants to first-year Berkeley Law students with demonstrated financial need.

Grants are:

  1. Awarded through a committee review process based on financial need
  2. Distributed in September
  3. Used to prepare for interviews and networking opportunities beginning in October

Every grant helps a student focus on making a strong first impression — not worrying about how they'll afford it.

UPDATE: Thanks for Unlocking the BLAA Challenge!

The Berkeley Law Alumni Association pledged a $3,000 Challenge Gift to inspire alumni participation. Thanks to your generosity, we unlocked this additional $3,000 within 12 hours of the campaign launch, allowing us to provide even more wardrobe grants. THANK YOU!

A Proven Program, A Growing Need

Over the past two years, Berkeley Law has awarded 91 wardrobe grants to first-year students. Yet every year, 20–30 additional qualified students cannot receive grants because funding runs out. Every Berkeley Law student deserves to enter their first interview with confidence — not financial worry.

With your help, we can change that.

Why Your Gift Matters

A wardrobe grant is about more than professional attire. It gives students the confidence to participate fully in today's accelerated recruiting environment and helps ensure that financial circumstances do not limit professional opportunity.

Image of Eric Stern"Every year, the Career Development Office works with students preparing for interviews that can shape the course of their legal careers. As recruiting timelines become increasingly compressed, many 1Ls are interviewing just months after arriving at Berkeley Law. Suit Up Our 1Ls helps ensure that financial barriers don't stand in the way of these opportunities by providing wardrobe grants that allow students to focus on what matters most—presenting their best selves with confidence. I hope you'll join me in supporting this important effort."
