Project Smile at Berkeley is a UC Berkeley chapter of a student-led organization dedicated to addressing oral health disparities and making oral health resources more accessible to underserved communities. We believe that oral health is a right and that everyone should have access to the education and resources needed to maintain a healthy smile, regardless of income, geography, or language barriers. Through community outreach, Project Smile provides oral health education and distributes dental care kits containing essential hygiene products such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash. Our members also help educate community members on proper brushing and flossing techniques, with an emphasis on prevention and building healthy, long-term oral hygiene habits. We are raising funds to support our dental care kit and oral health education initiative throughout the school year. Donations will help cover the cost of purchasing dental hygiene supplies, assembling educational materials, and supporting the distribution of these resources to communities in need. With this funding, Project Smile hopes to expand our outreach and provide more individuals with the tools and knowledge they need to take care of their oral health.

Funds raised through this campaign will be used near the end of the fall semester and throughout the upcoming spring semester to support Project Smile’s community outreach initiatives. We plan to allocate funds toward purchasing and restocking essential oral hygiene supplies, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash, as well as educational materials for our dental care kits. These resources will be used at our dental kit distribution and oral health education events, allowing us to consistently provide communities with the tools and knowledge needed to maintain healthy oral hygiene habits.

By meeting our fundraising goal, Project Smile will be able to provide more communities with essential oral hygiene supplies and education on maintaining good oral health. We hope to encourage healthy habits and help reduce oral health disparities in underserved communities.

Budget Breakdown:

Dental Care Kits & Oral Hygiene Supplies – 70%

Toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash, and other essential oral hygiene products distributed to community members.

Oral Health Education & Outreach Materials – 20%

Educational pamphlets, handouts, printing costs, and other materials used to teach proper brushing, flossing, and preventive oral health practices.

Transportation & Event Support – 10%

Transportation of dental care kits, supplies, and educational materials to community outreach and distribution events.

If we do not reach our fundraising goal, we will still carry out our planned oral health outreach initiatives on a smaller scale. All funds raised will remain dedicated to Project Smile and will be prioritized toward purchasing essential oral hygiene supplies and educational materials. All estimates are rough only, and actual expenditures may vary.
