New Crowdfunding Campaign

February 06, 2018

Hello to all our previous donors!

We wanted to give you an update on our project as well as tell you about our new crowdfunding campaign here: https://crowdfund.berkeley.edu/project/8748

We have added more sections to our project including a dental and nutrition section that aims to create a more overall health care influence on India. Because of this, we need more money to expand these sections and to pay our correspondent in India who collects research for us and promotes our educational materials. Thank you so much for donating in the past and we hope that you will consider donating again now.

Sincerely,

The Hygiene Heroes Team

Thank You from Hygiene Heroes

March 01, 2015

Dear Fellow Hygiene Heroes,

We wanted to express our gratitude for donating to Hygiene Heroes. Collectively, we have raised $4,395 from 41 donors, which we will use to send three student researchers to Chennai, India for two months this summer.

Please look out for our live blog releases over the summer and expect an appreciation gift as stated in “Our Way of Thanking You” section.

Thank you again for supporting our mission to teach preventative health—we appreciate all of you!

Best Regards,

Hygiene Heroes

Day 5: New Game Release

December 23, 2014

Dear fellow Hygiene Heroes,

We are excited about how much we've raised so far! In just 5 days, we've reached 20 percent of our goal. Here's a sneak peek of one of our board games, "Grandma Wants You to Eat Candy," which teaches our water and sanitation principles. Check out the curriculum page on our website to learn more.

Happy Holidays from the Hygiene Heroes Team!

Week 1: Story Releases

December 26, 2014

Dear Fellow Hygiene Heroes,

We are close to reaching a quarter of our goal! In response, we have uploaded two of our stories on our curriculum page, The Monkey and Brother Tiger which teaches safe water lessons and Gerry the Germ, one of our popular handwashing and sanitation stories.

Thank you for your continued support and please share our project with anyone who might be interested!

Cheers,

Hygiene Heroes Team

Week 2: Partner Announcement and Chapter Release

January 02, 2015

Dear Fellow Hygiene Heroes,

After just two weeks, we have raised over three thousand dollars! This means we are more than a third of the way to our goal! To celebrate, we are releasing our Safe Water chapter on our curriculum page.

We are also thrilled to announce that we will be partnering with two Non-Profit organizations in the coming year.

Thrive Networks in Vietnam

Thrive Networks’ Deworming program is a three-year, school-based deworming initiative that integrates sanitation and hygiene education to reduce reinfection rates among at-risk children in Vietnam.  Fighting intestinal worms is important because infection rates are very high in many poor regions, and the parasites reduce health and impede the ability to learn while in school and to earn afterwards.

Deworming pills are effective, but reinfection rates are typically very high.  If our curriculum can encourage safe hand washing, toilet use, and wearing sandals, it should reduce reinfection rates substantially.

Thrive Networks will pilot test parts of our curriculum in April 2015.  We hope that we can contribute to their efforts to reach over 900,000 elementary-school students in three rural provinces.

SHARP in India

School Health Annual Report Programme (SHARP) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that teaches hygiene education to a few hundred thousand children a year in India.  They have a good program based around a single 40-minute session.  Now they are interested in expanding the intensity of the program and having new materials for when they return to a school a second or third time.  They will pilot test some of our materials in early 2015.

Thank you again for all of your support!

Happy New Year from the Hygiene Heroes Team!

Week 3: Report Release

January 09, 2015

Dear fellow Hygiene Heroes,

We are halfway through our campaign and almost halfway to our goal! In the past three weeks we received incredibly generous donations, and we feel honored to be the recipients of all this support. To show our gratitude, we are releasing a report by Gautam Srikanth who was working on our curriculum in Chennai last summer. He describes how our Soapy Bottle activity circumvents the fact that many people can’t afford regular hand soap, and how excited the kids became over making these bottles. For the full report and pictures of the activity please check out our curriculum page.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Cheers,

The Hygiene Heroes Team
