Dear Fellow Hygiene Heroes,
After just two weeks, we have raised over three thousand dollars! This means we are more than a third of the way to our goal! To celebrate, we are releasing our Safe Water chapter on our curriculum page.
We are also thrilled to announce that we will be partnering with two Non-Profit organizations in the coming year.
Thrive Networks in Vietnam
Thrive Networks’ Deworming program is a three-year, school-based deworming initiative that integrates sanitation and hygiene education to reduce reinfection rates among at-risk children in Vietnam. Fighting intestinal worms is important because infection rates are very high in many poor regions, and the parasites reduce health and impede the ability to learn while in school and to earn afterwards.
Deworming pills are effective, but reinfection rates are typically very high. If our curriculum can encourage safe hand washing, toilet use, and wearing sandals, it should reduce reinfection rates substantially.
Thrive Networks will pilot test parts of our curriculum in April 2015. We hope that we can contribute to their efforts to reach over 900,000 elementary-school students in three rural provinces.
SHARP in India
School Health Annual Report Programme (SHARP) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that teaches hygiene education to a few hundred thousand children a year in India. They have a good program based around a single 40-minute session. Now they are interested in expanding the intensity of the program and having new materials for when they return to a school a second or third time. They will pilot test some of our materials in early 2015.
Thank you again for all of your support!
Happy New Year from the Hygiene Heroes Team!
