The University of California Marching Band is a student-run organization dedicated to spreading the California spirit and bringing excitement to Cal fans through our music and performances. As a group funded primarily through private sources, we depend on the generosity of our donors.
In the fall, Cal Band practices every day to rehearse music and run through our marching routines for our football pregame and halftime shows. When we are not practicing on the field, we proudly wear our Straw Hat Band uniform to all manner of sporting events like basketball, and volleyball, to show our support to our athletes and entertain Cal fans. Most recently, we performed in the Super Bowl 50 halftime show alongside Coldplay, Beyonce, and Bruno Mars and embarked on an international tour to perform in China and Japan. These memorable experiences truly demonstrated our ability to work with professionals and showcase our traditional marching style to audiences of over 150 million people around the world. We hope to continue to reach out to new audiences and further spread the California Spirit in future performances and tours.
Amazing opportunities like these have allowed us the chance to extend our reach to not only our Bay Area fans, but also to the international community. However, in order to continue growing, we depend upon the generosity of individuals so we may travel to entertain new fans and maintain our facilities. We are currently working to raise money to install a sound and video system within our rehearsal hall, which will also require the removal of asbestos from the building’s ceiling. Our current rehearsal facility has not been updated since it was built in the 1960s and it does not contain any form of proper sound or video equipment. Thus, as our band continues to grow and spread our outreach around the world, we would like to use this new equipment as a teaching tool to help us improve our shows and enhance our music and marching capabilities.
Currently, we do not have the funds necessary to complete a renovation of our performance facility and install an up-to-date sound and video system. Therefore, with your support during this campaign, we hope to raise at least $15,000, out of our estimated $30,000-$40,000 project cost. Please make a gift today. With your donation we can continue to improve and extend our performances to an even larger audience!
