WE MADE IT!

October 16, 2015

Dear TechHive supporters,

Thank you all for your amazing and generous donations.  We are immensely grateful to everyone who donated and took the time to check out and support our campaign. We more than reached our campaign goal thanks for your collective contributions. All donations will go a long way to support teen design internships, and we really could not have done this without you.

We are also heartened to learn that many of the people who shared our campaign and donated included teens themselves, sending us a clear message that they value deep and meaningful supplemental learning experiences outside of school time. From strangers to community partners, friends and family, your support has made this happen for Bay Area teens, a majority which come from underrepresented groups in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math.)

We are already busy making social robots, planning design patterns, upgrading software, and scheduling speakers. The first cohort of teens will be giving presentations and demonstrations on December 19th, 2015 at the Lawrence Hall of Science. Please mark your calendars and join us in celebrating in their design accomplishments.  We hope you will stay connected and continue to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr too as teens their work.

We are so excited to have met our fundraising goal and to have shared this project with all of you. On behalf of the TechHive and the Lawrence Hall of Science, a heartfelt thanks to everyone!

New Teen interns and New Richmond FabLab

September 30, 2015

It's been an exciting week with lots to report!

We are 92% into our campaign goal! Our crowdfund has raised also over $5000! This means we get our match from Chevron. Thanks to all our wonderful supporters!

Today, we made the final selections of the first of three cohorts of TechHive teens. Fall trimester students are arriving at the Lawrence Hall of Science in two weeks! TechHive teen interns are from Richmond, Oakland, San Pablo, Hayward, San Lorenzo, El Sobrante, El Cerrito, and other East Bay cities. They will be ready to give one big shout out of appreciation on their first day for sure.

Today was also the opening of the Richmond FabLab, the largest high school FabLab of its kind with digital fabrication and other flexible manufacturing machines. TechHive is excited to have this technological resource in our community to provide further opportunities to imagine, design, and make during school and in out-of-school time.

Teens tell the story of the making of Mole-A-Whack Exhibit

September 21, 2015

We are 66% into our goal and off to a great start! Thanks everyone who has contributed including TechHive students and alums!  Your support is giving more teens design experiences and showing our awesome TechHive teachers that you care! Check out the Techhive Makerfaire 2015 project  –  Mole-A-Whack Exhibit - which involved cardboard prototyping, visitor testing, music composition, programming PCBs, robotics, making switches, doing carpentry, and sharing this experience with families! Hear it from the teens in this Mole-A-Whack  video.

TechHive Teens made the Robot Petting Zoo Makeathon!

September 14, 2015

Today we launched our crowdfund campaign! Thanks to the first swift 13 supporters.  Please share the campaign and help spread the word to others to show our strength in the numbers. Let's give more high school students an authentic hands-on learning opportunity in science, design, and engineering from a TechHive internship. Here is one example of how Techhive teen interns made an impact on other Bay Area teens by creating and hosting a Robot Petting Zoo makeathon last Spring.  Check out the video!  Thanks for your help in getting the word out.
