California Mock Trial
Stretch goal set: $3,000!
Thank you to everyone who has helped us reach this milestone in our campaign! With 20 days left to go, we are now setting a new stretch goal of $3,000 for the campaign - that additional $1,000 would subsidize the cost of flying two more students to the National Championship later this month. Please continue to show your support for Cal Mock Trial by sharing our campaign with other people who may be interested in donating! None of this would be possible without you - thank you!
We are California Mock Trial, UC Berkeley’s Official Mock Trial Team - and we need your support.
Since our founding in 1999, Cal Mock Trial has grown to become a nationally ranked program and has consistently competed at the top levels of collegiate mock trial. We are currently ranked the #10 team in the nation by the American Mock Trial Association.
Now I know what you’re asking: what is mock trial? Mock trial is a team-based speech competition that combines elements of law, speech, debate, and theatre. As a simulation of trial advocacy, mock trial also includes simulations of courtroom procedure and technique that reflect a real trial. As a mock trial team, we prepare a fake case for trial and compete against teams from across the country every year.
Ever since our program began, we have been dedicated to providing a space for students to develop skills for life. Many of our members have gone on to top law schools, from Harvard to NYU to Berkeley’s own Boalt Law. Even those members who are not interested in law school gain valuable experience and develop abilities such as confidence, persuasive speaking, and presentation skills.
The more our team grows and improves, the more opportunities we have to compete and travel to new locations. Recent years have seen the Golden Bears competing and winning trials at locations such as Washington D.C., New York City, Saint Louis, Miami, Santa Barbara, Newport Beach, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Cal Mock Trial is a constant presence at the National Championship Tournament each year, often qualifying two separate teams and placing among the top ten programs in the nation.
To continue that success, we need your help. While we are grateful for every opportunity to compete, the chance to travel also means a higher financial burden on our members. By crowdfunding for our team, we hope to continue to allow students to develop their mock trial skills at the highest level, regardless of their financial situation. Every donation would help to ensure that Cal Mock Trial continues to provide a space for undergraduate students to flourish as public speakers, to develop an understanding of the U.S. legal system, and to gain valuable leadership experience on a student-run team.
Please consider making a donation to the California Mock Trial team - every donation counts! Thank you for your support!
