Thank you for sustaining Berkeley students during a difficult time

Berkeley’s Student Emergency Fund Impact Report

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Berkeley community came together to raise an outstanding $2.7 in direct emergency assistance aid for nearly 1,000 students. The Student Emergency Fund Report demonstrates the impact that these funds had on the students supported. Please share this stewardship report broadly with your donors and campus community.

While we celebrate what’s been achieved this last year, the need for students to access emergency funding remains, particularly when students return to campus and the Bay Area after many months away.

Thank you for helping Berkeley students!

Dear Donors,

When the unexpected happened this spring, UC Berkeley students had a safety net thanks to your generous support of the Student Emergency Fund. Because of you, we were immediately able to disburse funds to more than 850 students in the spring semester for a broad range of needs - from the basics of food and rent, to the technology required for online learning, to unexpected relocation costs.

As UC Berkeley student Savannah Leon (‘20) shares in her video, students at Berkeley felt supported and encouraged to continue on their path towards their degree.

Thank you for making this possible and lighting the way for UC Berkeley students when they needed it the most!

Student needs in the time of COVID-19: Berkeley responds

May 01, 2020

The UC Berkeley community is working together to ensure that our students are supported during this moment of economic upheaval brought about by the coronavirus.

The Student Emergency Fund makes a direct and immediate difference in students’ lives, providing support that helps ensure they will stay on target with their academic and career goals. In this live panel discussion, Chancellor Christ, campus leaders, a philanthropic partner and trustee, and a student-parent supported by the fund discuss how Berkeley is addressing the changing landscape of student need in our volatile moment.

Please join us here on May 5, 2020 from 12:30–1 p.m. to learn more about the current state of our Cal students and hear about plans for the future as we navigate this complex and evolving crisis. Have questions for the panel? You can ask them here in advance.
