Help Aerospace SAE Compete in Texas!

About Us

Founded less than 5 years ago, Aerospace SAE was created to help educate students on principles of aerodynamics and flight. As the premier aerospace-focused student competition team, we design and manufacture remote-controlled cargo planes. Our goal is to prepare our engineers to enter the aerospace industry!

Our year starts in the summer as we begin planning out our timeline and begin initial design. As we start the first semester, we spend our time improving our design through analysis. Eventually, we construct prototype planes and test fly them. During the second semester, we finalize our design and build aircraft for our competition in the spring.

Team members adding finishing touches to the plane before its test flight.

This is our team's 3rd year of competition. We take it very seriously, as during summer vacation, our team's leadership has been meeting regularly to discuss design and season objectives. However, the primary issue hindering our success this year is the lack of funding for our team's trip to the competition, which will be hosted in Texas.

The Breakdown

Our current budget breakdown is as follows:

  • Airfare: $2900. This will be the primary expense, as round trip tickets to Fort Worth will be around $300 per member.
  • Hotels: $1600. Assuming hotels will around $75, this money can be used for 7 rooms (4 people each), hosting the estimated 28 members of our team for the 3 nights of competition.
  • Shipping: $500. This covers costs of shipping our planes and equipment over to Texas. This is critical for maintaining our aircraft throughout the competition!

Every contribution is valuable, and you can rest assured knowing your gift will help us take off (quite literally)! Your contribution will directly help sustain the efforts of Berkeley's aerospace engineers as we lay the foundation for a growing aerospace presence on campus. Please make a gift today and help spread the word about our project!
