Dear embARC Supporters,
Thanks to 25 generous donors, we're only $465 away from an embARC Summer Design Scholarship for potential students like Yusra:
Yusra is now attending high school in Richmond, but has lived with her family in Oakland, Berkeley and Yemen. She says of a recent trip to the latter:
"I strolled along its dirt paved streets, the residential buildings catching my eye... They were different from the homes in my North Oakland neighborhood. They weren't built from wood, but clay and iron. Now looking back, I see the differences between the architecture, and the irony in it. The homes in Yemen were built by the very elements that both sheltered people, and killed them. While clay kept the families dry and warm, the iron weapons separated them... Bombed down and stripped of their beauty, and buildings now litter the streets. The very streets I left as soon as the revolutions started. The very streets that filled my mind with curiosity, are now graves."
Yusra would bring an intense interest in architecture, a keen eye for observation, a commitment to social justice and a 3.96 grade point average to the embARC program.
Your gift makes attending embARC a reality for Yusra and other students like her across the Bay Area!
If you haven't already given, will you help us close that $465 gap?
Thanks and best,
embARC Staff
With the help of 21 generous donors and the Wishbone organization, Pang Shen had a transformative experience at embARC last summer. He had this to say about his time in Wurster Hall:
"In my past four weeks at embARC Summer Design Academy, I learned about the basic principles of architecture and also each of the majors at the College of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley. I met students from across the United States and around the world who share my passion for the field of architecture. In addition, I collaborated with my peers to build a shed for the Verde Elementary Garden in North Richmond.
But most of all, I experienced what it's like to be a college student, particularly a student majoring in architecture. With these experiences at embARC, I am ready to start my journey towards a major in architecture. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and that first step is embARC Summer Design Academy."
To that, we say: "GO PANG!"
