CalSol is a team composed of nearly 100 passionate, driven, and hardworking students at UC Berkeley from a wide variety of disciplines. Although we all work on different aspects of the project, and come from a diversity of backgrounds, we share one common mission. CalSol aspires to design, build, test, and race fully solar-powered vehicles at an international level, and in doing so, impart invaluable real-world experience to our members and develop engineers and leaders who will use their skills to improve the world we live in.
Our spirit of collaboration, constant learning, and innovation drives our success. Nearly every component on our vehicles is designed in-house by team members, from our suspension system to our circuit boards.
In our 27-year history as a fully student-run team, we have developed 8 solar vehicles, all with the aid and generosity of our sponsors and community. More recently, this culminated in our winning the Formula Sun Grand Prix in Austin, Texas this summer - a race in which we were pitted against 17 other teams from around the world.
Our Project - Tachyon
Tachyon, our 9th-generation solar vehicle, will be unlike any car we’ve ever built. As a cruiser class vehicle, Tachyon features a radical new design that will be able to seat two passengers. Tachyon embraces ideas of the future of clean energy transportation, and is designed with efficiency and practicality in mind.
Tachyon is currently entering the manufacturing stage of its development after over a year of concept design and refinement. Manufacturing will be completed by April 2018, and Tachyon will enter its first race, the 2018 American Solar Challenge in July 2018. The race is nearly 2,000 miles long, and stretches from the plains of Nebraska to the coast of Oregon.
Your donation will not only go towards making Tachyon a reality, but also directly impact the education of CalSol's future engineers, entrepreneurs, and leaders.
Build a brighter tomorrow today.
